In our conversation with Joel, I asked what is was like to reach the pinnacle of his sport (making it to the major leagues.  He surprised us by saying, "That isn't the pinnacle.  The pinnacle is making it to the All Stars - don't set your sights too low."

Joel's career in Major League Baseball was cut short due to a shoulder injury.  His response to that difficult situation was, "What's next?"  He wanted to help others, so he coaches and teaches pitching, he wants to be involved with his kids, so he follows their sports and he still loves baseball, so he follows each season.  Dedication to what is in front of us now, goes a long way.
